Briefing of the Course

Environmentalist diving is a type of diving that involves using scuba and/or other diving equipment to conduct research or collect data underwater. It is a specialized form of diving that requires specialized training and equipment to ensure safety and accuracy in collecting data.

Environmentalist divers are typically trained in a variety of skills and techniques, including underwater navigation, data collection and recording, sample collection and preservation, and safety protocols specific to the unique challenges of underwater environments. They may be employed by universities, research institutions, government agencies, or private companies to conduct a wide range of scientific studies, from ecological surveys to marine biology research.

In many cases, environmental diving is essential for understanding and preserving marine ecosystems and wildlife, as well as for advancing our knowledge of the ocean and its many complex processes. However, it is also important to ensure that environmental diving is conducted safely and responsibly, to minimize the risk of injury or harm to divers and the environment.

Benefits of the Course

Scientific diving offers several advantages for conducting research and data collection in underwater environments, including:

  • Access to hard-to-reach areas

Environmental diving allows researchers to access underwater environments that are difficult or impossible to reach using traditional sampling techniques, such as remote sensors or boats. This makes it possible to collect data and conduct research in areas that might otherwise be inaccessible.

  • Direct observation

Environmentalist divers can observe and collect data on marine organisms and ecosystems in their natural habitat, providing a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of their behavior, distribution, and interactions.

  • Efficient data collection

Environmentalist divers can quickly and efficiently collect data and samples underwater, reducing the time and cost associated with traditional sampling methods.

  • Flexibility

Environmentalist divers can adapt their research methods and techniques to suit the specific needs of the research project, allowing for a more targeted and effective approach to data collection.

  • Safety

Environmental diving protocols emphasize safety and risk management, ensuring that divers are trained and equipped to handle the unique challenges of underwater environments. This helps to minimize the risk of injury or harm to divers and the environment.

Overall, environmental diving is an essential tool for studying marine environments and conducting research in the underwater world, offering a range of benefits that cannot be achieved using traditional sampling methods.

Course Info

Course prerequisites: Your instructor, during in-water activities will require from you, to be able to swim 200 meters with no aids or 300 meters with surface equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) and float at the surface of the water for 10 minutes without using any floating aid.

Minimum age of the course is 16 years. This is a Continuing Education training level, you must be at least an Open Water Diver & have 10 Logged Dives.

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications, recent surgery, requires from you to get a written approval from a physician before diving.

Upon finishing your eLearning course you have to choose an official ANDI Training Facility, in order to finish your in-water activities of your course. We suggest you to contact with your preferable diving center, in order to schedule your in water time for confined or open water training!

For any other available language, we suggest you to contact with your local ANDI Training Facility!

eLearning course is a self-study method that covers the required knowledge development. This course requires also in-water training for the certification. There will be an additional cost to complete your certification with an ANDI instructor, throughout an official ANDI training facility. The total cost depends on the location, the size of the class and whether or not you need to rent scuba equipment.
